A quote from the famed American poet Walt Whitman is engraved around the perimeter ‘O Madly the Sea Pushes Upon The Land With Love’ is an excerpt from Whitman's poetry collection titled Leaves of Grass. This collection celebrates his philosophy of life and humanity and is notable for its discussion of delight in sensual pleasures during a time when such candid displays were considered immoral.
